portland guide

My soul city. My heart. My love.

I've only been here a year and a half, but I adore this city. It has the best vibes, the most genuinely nice people you'll ever meet, a sense of community like I've never experienced, and the BEST food around. I've eaten my way through a fair share of restaurants, and developed quite the list of favorites. More and more often, friends ask for recommendations on what to do while in town, so I decided to make a personal guide to Portland, divided into categories of food, sweets (yes I have a problem), drinks, and shops/things to do.

jam on hawthorne- the BEST brunch complete with giant mason jar mimosas, especially great for large groups

por que no- best inauthentic Mexican in town, colorful fun decor, lots of veg options

teote- incredible latin american fare, my wife wanted to rename our dog she loves this place so much,  make sure to check out the upstairs patio

harlow- juices, smoothies, wellness shots, so many healthy and equally delicious options

carioca bowls- my favorite açaí bowls and a gorgeous patio to enjoy them on

the sudra- my favorite spot in st johns, one of the best vegan options with a twist on traditional Indian dishes

proud mary- such a cool, industrial minimalist vibe, and bomb brunch options

cruzroom- my number 1 most recommended spot for funky tacos and toy dinosaurs in your cocktails

bamboo sushi- sustainably sourced fish, the best quality in town and four locations around the city, literally the only place I eat nigiri anymore, ask for the yuzu hotate

poke mon- cute little spot for poke on Hawthorne, the garlic salmon and spicy yuzu are my personal favorite bowls

sizzle pie- best pizza around! tons of vegan options including my favorite, the ripper, giant slices and locations all around the city

eisenhower bagelhouse- the best lox in the city, get it on a sea salt bagel, you won't regret it!

stammtisch- best german food, super authentic and the staff always make you feel at home, also love their sister concept, prost!

luc lac- best pho around! open super late on weekends. don't forgot to check out the ceiling

tortilleria y tienda de leon- best authentic Mexican, family owned and tortillas fresh made in house, several vegan and veg options too

180- the only speciality churro shop in portland, we had them at our wedding rehearsal I love them so much

blue star- in a donut kind of town, I choose blue star every time. the og is a classic, but you cant really go wrong with that brioche bread which is always on point

toadstool cupcake- my absolute favorite cupcakes ever. they take a cupcake, top it with creamy goodness, dip it in ganache and call it a toadstool. 30+ flavors and they are ALL so good!

eb + bean- dairy free soft serve dreams come true, typically have at least 3 vegan options plus alll of the toppings!

lauretta jean's- if you love pie, this is the place. so many options, and they're all homemade.

tea bar- my absolute favorite place in portland. my blog in a place. clean, light, and quality teas. my favorites include the rose vanilla boba, golden milk and matcha, I get mine with oat milk

townshend's- my favorite for more traditional teas, and carrier of my absolute favorite kombucha ever, brew dr., love is my favorite flavor

kure juice bar- local, fantastic branding, and quality juices and smoothies with four locations my personal favorite in pine street market

edgefield- with a winery, brewery, distillery, and spa on site, you could stay here all day and night, although I dont recommend staying overnight unless you're on the third floor

shops/to do

new seasons- i'm obsessed with grocery stores, and spend an excessive amount of time in them. new seasons, a local chain, has the absolute best customer service, quality and selection of clean and organic offerings

portland farmers market- offered all over town, but the psu market downtown is the largest, and is open year round

pier park- my personal escape from the city and favorite place in the entire city. this forest is magical and always has a way of making me forget my problems and just breathe in the beauty of nature

solabee flowers- my absolute favorite flower shop, honestly the only floral shop in my eyes, with the most unique offerings, as well as crystals and plants, also our wedding florist

pistils nursery- best selection of plants, such a cool space,  super informative staff that truly care about meeting your needs, and finding you the perfect plant

fingerbang- it will take a few weeks to get an appointment, but it will be worth it. the most creative, unique and badass nail shop around, and nationally recognized

lan su chinese garden- one of the most magical places to visit year round in the heart of chinatown, and also one of the most authentic chinese gardens in the us, also the location of my wedding. be sure to check out the teahouse in the back corner of the garden

planet granite- our local rock climbing gym in the pearl. i'm not a gym person but this place rocks. excuse the pun. they also offer yoga classes, all of the equipment you'll find at a typical gym as well as extensive rock climbing and bouldering routes.

altar- think witchy vibes. crystals, jewelry, clothing, books and general awesomeness. my favorite place to shop for something special

casa diablo- portland has more strip clubs per capita than any us city, and casa diablo is the vegan club, as well as the best in my opinion, closely followed by sassy's.

love hive yoga- the loving vibes are flowing in this two level yoga studio. clean and minimal aesthetic with a gold heart on the wall with amazing instructors. my favorite classes are the early morning weekend offerings

woonwinkel- cutest shop ever for home decor, think scandanavian modern aesthetic with pops of color, everything from textiles to ceramics, to pineapple lights.

wildfang- conveniently located next to woonwinkel, this is the ultimate badass women owned clothing and lifestyle shop with an androgynous style. think modern, wild feminist and empowering lgbtq communities. as an added bonus, they collaborate on local beer, wine and tea releases
